Linguistics and Education
My teaching of prospective educators has lead to a strong interest in how linguistics can be incorporated into K-12 curriculum. For the past three years I have been involved in a partnership with High Tech Middle North County, working with 8th grade teachers and students on a variety of projects. See my publications list for more on this topic.

Phonology
Phonology was my first love in linguistics (well, probably a shared love with syntax at first, but then phonology won). My work in this area focuses on palatalization, but my interests are broad: how phonology interfaces with phonetics and morphology; phonology in first and heritage language acquisition; and also literacy and phonology.

Heritage Languages
As a native speaker of Romanian, raising two children in an English dominant environment, heritage language research kind of fell into my lap. I have to credit my dear mentor, colleague, and friend, Dr. Masha Polinsky, for introducing me formally to the field. My interests in this field include aspects of heritage language acquisition in general, particularly in Romanian as a heritage language, and heritage language maintenance.
